Genoa Healthcare team member named as Pharmacy Technician of the Year in Alabama

Aug 7th, 2024

Crissy Sheffield, Genoa Healthcare® pharmacy technician in Gadsden, Alabama, was selected as the 2024 Technician of the Year by the Alabama Pharmacy Association. “Crissy is extremely hard-working, patient-oriented and goal-driven,” said Crissy’s manager, Katie Hall, PharmD. “She is everything that embodies an amazing technician and I am so grateful she is part of our team.”

First presented in 2007, the annual award recognizes a pharmacy technician who demonstrates excellence in performance of technician duties.

Crissy shared receiving the award was beyond her wildest dreams.

“Providing quality care to my patients, whether it be medication-related or simply making them smile, has been my highlight every day since I joined the pharmacy world 14 years ago,” said Crissy. “From the doctors to the nurses to the patients, we all have the same goal to make a difference in people’s lives.”

Genoa has provided pharmacy care to the behavioral health community for over 20 years. Crissy’s pharmacy, like most of the organization’s other pharmacies, is located on-site within the mental health clinic where its consumers receive their care. This integrated pharmacy model enables its team members to increase access to care and work to improve outcomes with clinic staff and providers as one cohesive care team.

Crissy shared she is thankful for the guidance and leadership of her mentors throughout her pharmacy career and acknowledges she would not be where she is today without them. She is also grateful for her team members for their ongoing support.

“Crissy’s eagerness to help others and to learn new challenges is an inspiration to our entire team,” shared Crissy’s team member Jeanie Tumlin, PharmD.

Crissy’s team members view her as a valuable asset to the team and say it’s a privilege to work alongside her.

“She is a one-of-a-kind technician,” said Crissy’s team member Kevin Lewis, PharmD. “Her top priority is always to take care of the patient.”
