For consumers living with Tardive Dyskinesia, Genoa Healthcare’s Clinical Assistance Program offers personalized support

May 1st, 2024

Tardive Dyskinesia – a neurological disorder linked to prolonged use of antipsychotic medications – impacts over 600,000 individuals each year. Did you know that 50% of consumers taking TD medication don’t adhere to their treatment? Complex treatment plans are just one of the reasons that cause nonadherence for individuals living with TD, resulting in gaps in care.

What is the Clinical Assistance Program?

At Genoa Healthcare®, we understand that managing treatment for TD can feel overwhelming for consumers. That’s why we created the Clinical Assistance Program, a no-cost program designed to provide help and resources to consumers taking TD medications.

When consumers enroll in the Clinical Assistance Program, they can expect personalized services such as adherence education, medication counseling and routine check-ins to monitor their progress. We also collaborate with the consumer’s prescribing team to ensure coordinated care throughout the process.

How do my consumers enroll in the program?

When a TD prescription is prescribed, your Genoa pharmacy team will follow up with the consumer to see if they have any questions. It is recommended that the consumer be in the first 30 days of their treatment since this is the timeframe where most consumers become non-adherent. This no-cost program allows consumers to work one-on-one with their pharmacist during their clinical assessment, giving them a resource they can turn to when questions arise about their treatment. The pharmacy site manager will work with the consumer to help enroll them in the program right on-site.

What are the barriers to care when taking TD medications, and how does the Clinical Assistance Program help?

While the program’s overall goal is to improve the patient’s medication experience and optimize their TD prescription, certain barriers can affect medication effectiveness and increase the risk of side effects. These barriers may include drug interactions and failure to adhere to the recommended titration schedule when clinically appropriate.

To learn more about how the Clinical Assistance Program can help overcome these barriers and enhance the treatment experience for your consumers, watch the webinar clip below:
