Increase in Mental Illness & Substance Abuse during Pandemic
As rates of mental illness and substance use disorder rose during the COVID-19 pandemic, Genoa Healthcare stepped up to improve access to care and promote better health care outcomes. Genoa’s efforts to meet the needs of the behavioral health community during the pandemic were featured recently in Chain Drug Review magazine. The article highlights the growing need for behavioral health services and access to care and explains how Genoa pharmacies adapted to meet the changing needs of clinic partners and consumers. Pharmacies increased delivery and curbside pickup services, made proactive check-in calls and integrated with telehealth providers to ensure consumers were able to stay on their medication plans.
In addition, Genoa pharmacies have partnered with states and counties to administer COVID-19 vaccines in their local communities, ensuring that chronically underserved individuals had access to immunization clinics.
